THE CREATION OF PEARL HYACINTH
BUILDING AN ARTISTIC IDENTITY ACROSS VIRTUAL WORLDS

Thu November 12, 2026 07:00 pm CET

Pearl Hyacinth is an avatar who was born ten years ago into the world of Second Life but managed to escape, and has since been exploring, socializing, collecting digital art, curating shows, and building worlds across the extensive web of cyberspace. Her user, Melody Owen has been an exhibiting multi-disciplinary conceptual artist, curator, and creative researcher in the world of humans for over 25 years.

Pearl is going to present snapshots from her active decade of life via a collection of images and objects documenting her time. She is creating an archive in Arrival Space with connected spaces displaying a small collection of images and artifacts from her experience. She hopes to meet you there and give a brief introduction to the space, wander around a bit, and chat about the experience of being an avatar/human/artist/cyborg type character from 2016-2026.

Avatar

Pearl Hyacinth is an avatar who has spent the last decade in cyberspace, exploring, meeting people, building worlds, kitbashing, curating exhibits, being part of international digital art communities, and giving presentations. She is born of an interest in virtual three-dimensional worlds as venues for creative expression. Her user, Melody Owen, has been an exhibiting artist, a writer, a curator, and an archivist in the real world for over two decades. She has an MFA in Digital Art and an MA in Environmental Humanities. She finds social creative virtual worlds to be a philosophically and metaphorically rich medium for exploring human ideas about reality, identity, embodiment, and place.
