GALAXY OF SUFFERING
COMPOSING IMMERSIVE WORLDS AT THE INTERSECTION OF MUSIC, ART AND XR

Tue November 10, 2026 06:00 pm CET

What if music didn’t accompany an immersive world, but actually created it?

In Galaxy of Suffering, composer and Creative AI researcher Anna Shvets transforms music into a living, volumetric environment using Neural Radiance Fields, AI-driven audio responsiveness, and real-time interaction. The work builds on her award-winning concept of Volumetric Music Composition, in which music becomes the generative core shaping an XR world.

At its emotional center is the suffering of women during war. As the music unfolds, architecture disintegrates and the environment moves toward a requiem, where visitors release particles representing ascending souls.

The experience is a powerful exploration of how music, art, Creative AI, and XR can converge to create spaces of memory, suffering, resilience, and catharsis.

Anna Shvets is a composer and researcher at the intersection of music, XR, and generative AI. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham, where she researches AI-powered immersive music experiences and audiovisual technologies. In 2023, she proposed the concept of volumetric music composition, extending musical composition into three-dimensional, interactive space. Her VR works have been presented internationally, including at SXSW (Austin, Texas) and FIVARS (Toronto, Canada). At IMMERSIVE X, she presents “Galaxy of Suffering”, an AI-based VR music experience that shows how NeRFs can participate in audio-reactive worldbuilding.
