Can a virtual world be European and if so, what would make it so?
Virtual worlds may be global by nature, but the cultures and values from which they emerge are not. European approaches increasingly place human-centred design at the core of digital and immersive development, alongside cultural diversity, multilingualism, inclusion, participation, accessibility, and fundamental rights.
This conversation explores what those principles could mean in practice for the design and experience of virtual worlds. What happens when human-centred values become principles for worldbuilding? How might European perspectives on identity, community, representation, public space, and participation shape the environments we create and inhabit?
The central question is what “Made in Europe” could mean for the next generation of virtual worlds, and whether human-centred design can become a defining characteristic of virtual worlds developed in Europe.
