“Man only plays when he is in the fullest sense of the word a human being, and he is only fully a human being when he plays.” (Schiller). What does that mean for humans and brands? A tour de force of game theory, followed by a look behind the scenes of ARGs, the immersive game form par excellence, with case study on ARCANA (March 2020).

Studied cultural studies, English literature, and media studies. Experience design for LARPs and ARGs. Seminars on topics related to games, immersion, and participation at German universities. Initiator of the Fantasy Day at TU Dortmund. Currently researching on the holodeck.

Oliver Hoffmann
Game Maker

Hoffmann has a degree in German studies, political science, and media studies from Mannheim University. He has been working on and with texts for over forty years. Experience designer for LARPs and ARGs since the late 1990s. Teaches Storytelling, Leadership and Teambuilding at various German universities.
